1 Peter 1: 3 Well Done Thou Good and Faithful Servant

1 Peter 1: 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you.

I love that our heavenly home is “reserved”. For many years Kathy and I traveled 10 minutes north from our small town where everyone was pretty social and knew everyone else. It was hard for us to enjoy a quiet dinner for two when we knew probably half the population there. So, on many a Friday evening, we planned ahead and would drive across the five mile bridge to the next town at the southern edge of Michigan’s upper peninsula. There we enjoyed an uninterrupted dinner at our favorite seafood restaurant; and we always called ahead for a reservation at our special table, #17, with a great view of the harbor and Mackinac Island beyond. On arrival, at 7pm we were immediately ushered to table 17 no matter how long the line or crowded the waiting area on a warm summer evening. No waiting, no scrambling to find us a spot, welcomed by name, our place was reserved! As to our heavenly home, we don’t know the time, day, or even year of our reservation, but on arrival it’s ready and we’ll be greeted with : “well done thou good and faithful servant”.
