When I read in Ecclesiastes 3:6 that “There is. . . a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away” I immediately thought of the difficult task of sorting through all the stuff of our lives, our possessions, habits, commitments, and beliefs to decide which to keep because they are still useful, true and bring us joy and love, and which to discard and throw away because they are unhelpful, false, or bring little joy or love. Yes, even though many of us have trouble sorting and decluttering our lives, I believe there is a time to sort and “throw away.” I am encouraged to do this by this quote from Peter Walsh, “What I know for sure is that when you declutter – whether it’s on your home, your head, or your heart – it is astounding what will flow into that space that will enrich you, your life, and your family.” May God grant us the wisdom to sort and declutter our lives.
