Rev. Wendy Komori Stager –
Jesus says, “I am the bread of life, whoever comes to me will never go hungry and the one who believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6: 35
On a surface and material level, Jesus’ statement is preposterous. Jesus doesn’t carry around a bag of food and canteen of water to satisfy the needs of anyone who comes to him. And, even on a deeper, spiritual level, this “I AM” statement seems to challenge even the most faithful among us. For each of us has been hungry and thirsty both in physical ways and in our souls.
Yet, I have seen how Jesus satisfies in times of need. One of the questions I ask people before I pray with them is, “What do you need from God today?” People have said:
- I need to know I exist.
- I need answers.
- I don’t need anything from God today, I’m just thankful.
- I need strength because I am so weak right now.
- I need to be released from this life and go to heaven.
Your answers have helped me to pray for God’s will to occur in your life. And I have witnessed these prayers being answered day after day.
Invitation:
What do you need from God today? Pray and ask for God for it. The next day, notice if God has provided for you and remember to give thanks.
