Romans 8:28  And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Of the many places in scripture where there is promise of God’s love and care for us, this one takes the cake. We love God, albeit imperfectly, even inconsistently and wobblingly at times – but we nevertheless do love God. But, what about part two of this promise, that is, being “called according to his purpose” ?  The meaning here is simply a description of our heart’s desire to do things God’s way out of faith that God knows best – yes, even when we don’t follow through on it.  Somehow, even in our failures of faith and obedience, our God is big enough and creative enough to weave those negative threads of our lives into the whole of a beautiful tapestry he ultimately pronounces “good”. Hallelujah.    Pastor Bill
