Contribute to the Needs of the Saints

One of the things that happens when preaching a series of sermons on an extended portion of scripture is that the topics and themes that emerge don’t always correspond exactly with other aspects of the church calendar.  This is such a time.  Normally we focus on stewardship and giving during the annual fall stewardship campaign, but we know that stewardship is a year-round commitment and that needs can and do emerge at any time.    This week our study of Living a Transformed Life according to Romans 12 admonishes us to “contribute to the needs of the saints.” (Romans 12:13a)  In 2 Corinthians 8:1-15, Paul describes a specific situation of need and encourages the Corinthians to contribute as they are able.   Paul knows that mutual giving and sharing have a transformative effect, not only for those who receive, but for those who give.   May we experience the joy of giving!

peace, Ernie
