DEALING WITH LIFE’S CONFLICTS

The final verse in our study of Living Fully All the Times and Seasons of our Life, says, “There is a time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace” (Ecclesiastes 3:8).  Rabbi Shapiro translates this verse, “There are. . . moments of loving and moments of hating; moments of warring and moments of peacemaking,” to reflect Ecclesiastes’ emphasis on life’s impermanence and uncontrollability.  In either translation, this verse points to the presence of conflict in our lives.  Because conflicts will arise between individual people, between groups, and between nations, it is crucial that we are wise in how we deal with conflict.  Our lives depend on it.  May God grant us wisdom for how to live in the face of life’s many conflicts.
