GIGO

GIGO

Philippians 4:8  Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

As fallen creatures living on a fallen planet, this admonition from St Paul is given as a necessary warning that Jesus’ followers need to actively resist the prevalent negativities in  in the larger world. In our day, many of us are feeling overwhelmed by the sheer negative multiplicity, volume, sensationalism and partisanship we encounter in and through news media. Solid research demonstrates clearly that what we are exposed to regularly from the larger world inevitably colors how we feel about our personal world. St Paul understands that how we use our minds and what we choose to feed them, is of great impact in how we feel about our lives and therefore how we live them. Maybe by carefully tending to the gateways to our minds we can transform the “G” in GIGO from garbage to Grace.     Pastor Bill
