After entreating us in vv 1-2 to offer ourselves to God as living sacrifices so that we may resist conformity and begin to live a transformed life, the apostle Paul tells us to think of ourselves with “sober judgment”, with humility. This involves seeing ourselves from God’s perspective and as part of a larger whole, the Body of Christ in the world. “Humility is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of yourself less.” With humility we are set free to use the particular gifts that God has given each of us in the service of Christ and God’s Kingdom. May God grant each of us this empowering humility!
peace, Ernie
