Philippians 4:12-13 I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have plenty. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being well-fed and of going hungry, of having plenty and of being in need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

That last sentence is, of course, Paul’s “secret”. It’s also the secret for an Asian Christian whose blog I read a while back. He lives very frugally in Iceland, ministering to the many Asian people seeking asylum there. He commends that same secret to them as they deal with government, employment insecurity, language barriers and the hostility of anti-Asian – anti-immigrant racism. He helps them know that God is on their side, no matter what. As Paul writes in Romans 8, If God is for us, who can be against us; and a few verses later, ‘we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us’. May we, all of us, persist by faith to hold firmly to such life-giving truth, as Paul says, ‘in all circumstances.’
