IN GOD ALONE is the theme of Psalm 62. The psalmist testifies first to his personal faith, “For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from God. God alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my deliverance and my honor; my mighty rock, my refuge is in God” (vv.5-7). Then he turns from personal testimony to exhortation, telling others: “Trust in God at all times, O people; pour out your heart before God; God is a refuge for us.” (v.8) He goes on in vv. 9-10 to give reasons why it is foolish to put our ultimate trust in anything less than God: human beings are mortal, less than breath; money cannot provide us ultimate security either. Our faith, our trust, our hope, is in God alone, for power belongs to God, and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord. (vv.11-12). This is good news indeed!
