John 16:32 Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Each of the gospels record Jesus clearly predicting his death and resurrection multiple times. This passage makes rather indirect reference to his coming death and promise to overcome it – perhaps his disciples “got it” anyway. Surely resurrection brought crystal clarity. In the meantime, though, “Lo in the grave He lay, Jesus my savior” all that Saturday, today – tomorrow morning, though, the promise coming true for Jesus brings the whole world the “good cheer” that even though tribulation and death are the way of the world, Jesus has reversed the pattern of this fallen world and overcomes both tribulation and the ultimacy of death. Because he has overcome, we continue to grow, day by day, into the good cheer of being part of that great overcoming. Hallelujah!
