Deuteronomy 12:28 Be careful to obey all these words that I command you today, so that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, because you will be doing what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.

Moses here has been restating the law given by God on Mt Sinai and now offers important additional motivation to live by it. Those ancient Israelites probably understood reasonably well that doing things God’s way is the very definition of a life well lived. But further, the positive impact of that kind of life on the generations that follow is a valuable legacy in itself. For many of us parents, there are probably some things we would have done differently with, for, and as examples for our children, if we but had the opportunity. But, no worries, we still have all the time left that we have left. A parent’s job is never finished. Prayer for our families, active encouragement of them, our good example, gentle spiritedness and listening hearts can still be a great legacy.  Pastor Bill
