Numbers 6:24-26  YHWH bless you and keep you; YHWH make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you;  YHWH lift up his countenance upon you, and grant you peace.

This is part of the oldest known bible fragment from extra-biblical sources – it was found inscribed on a sheet of silver – and it pre-dates the oldest of the Dead Sea scrolls by hundreds of years! It comes from a time when the personal name of God, written as YHWH was still in use and had not yet replaced by the title, “LORD”. The previous verse says that God, through Moses, told his brother Aaron the priest, to bless the people with these words of blessing, thus putting his name, rather than only his title upon the people. With the coming of Messiah Jesus, God’s only begotten Son, and the revelation of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, we have come to understand the tri-une nature of our God. And so, we’re back to “Lord” again to encompass the fullness of the trinity without needing to name all three. But for sure, we are Yahwist people, Christly people, Spirit inhabited people. Blessed be the names of the Lord.
