Luke 18:Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart. 2 He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor had respect for people. 3 In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Grant me justice against my accuser.’ 4 For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Though I have no fear of God and no respect for anyone, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.’ ” 6 And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says”.

The message here for our prayer life, and all of life, is to persevere.Keep on keeping on. Keep your eyes on the prize. In any undertaking, begin by keeping the end in view. Our natural tendency is to lose heart, feel overwhelmed by circumstances, obstacles and cost. That’s natural but we are more than merely natural. We,through the moving of God’s Spirit, have within us the power of God’s love. Time and again through scripture, all the great flawed heroes of the faith were heroic in just this way of perseverance. Pray and do all you can in pursuit of the goals and hopes God puts before you. Never lose sight of them. England’s great WWII leader came to give a commencement speech at Oxford some years after the war was over. He had his  three part characteristic look about him with a cigar, cane and top hat. And he had a three sentence speech. “Never give up. (pause). Never give up. (pause). Never give up”.And then he sat down.
