Philippians 3:14 I Press on Toward the Goal

Philippians 3:14 I press on toward the goal, toward the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.

Saint Paul had just finished explaining what he’s left behind. Though it still looms large, he’s pushed it back into the rearview mirror – all that pharisaical law keeping and ritualized religiosity that he so excelled at. Now he describes what’s on the road ahead, right out in front of him as he looks ahead through the windshield of life towards a future of continuing to grow more fully into faithfully following Christ Jesus. It’s a lifelong calling to live by the power that raised Jesus from the dead, the power of love so great that it overcomes even the last enemy, death, which Christ promised to vanquish once and for all – that’s the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus, to live as one looking, little by little, ever more like Him – looking and growing forward into living into His life of love, setting aside any costs to our comfort, convenience or ego.
