Psalm 18:1 I love you, O Lord, my strength. 2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

In the Old Testament there are many references to this sort of horn, presumably ram’s horns, located and firmly attached at each of the four corners of the altar. To flee guilt and retribution and hold to the horn, typically pointed in the blood of a sacrificial animal, was to occupy the ultimate place of asylum. Hold tight!  You’re safe. Don’t let go. Accusations can’t touch you. Jesus is the horn of our salvation – forgiveness and rescue is assured!
