Solid Rock Foundation

Solid Rock Foundation

Hebrews 11: 1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for. …8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

And we today, heirs to a much more fully developed faith than was handed down from those ancients, still seek that city with solid foundations, whose architect and builder is God. Our destiny and eventual destination is a solid and permanent city of God, not a temporary encampment of tents. It is a city founded on the solid rock cornerstone of God moving into our earthly neighborhood in human form; and founded too on the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit building that city on the foundation of the apostles and all who would over the ages come to be co-builders as followers of Jesus. And us? We still have lots of work ahead. Lead on and guide, lead on and grant us wisdom and power O God, for our church’s part and our own individual personal parts in your grand project of building our new and permanent home with faith, hope and love.
