November 6, 2015 – Well, as you know we are deep into the annual stewardship campaign. And the money that we are able to raise in this year’s campaign, the money that you are willing and able to give — this will influence what we will be able to do as a congregation in the coming year — our level of staffing, our programs, the condition of our facilities, our mission to the community and world; perhaps even our very future as a congregation.
Note that I say “will influence” and not “will determine,” because ultimately the future is in God’s hands, not ours, certainly not ours alone.
But each of us does have an important part to play. What we choose to give of our time, our talents, and yes, our money, does make a difference, for us as givers and for those who receive our giving.
The lectionary gospel text for this Sunday, Mark 12:38-44, tells the story of the now legendary widow whom Jesus sees put her two copper coins, ‘Mites’ as the King James translators put it, into the Temple offering box. I invite you to think about this text as you make your pledge.
