Understanding One Another

This Sunday we come to one of the most challenging parts of living the Peace Prayer, “Grant that I may not so much seek to be understood, as to understand.”  For we all yearn to be understood.  Being understood and accepted is deeply nourishing to the soul.  So we often seek to force people to understand us and our point of view.  The result is that our “biggest communication problem is that we do not listen to understand.  We listen to reply.”   To pray that we first seek to understand helps us to truly listen.  May God lead us to understand one another.
