Winter Nights Shelter

St. Andrew’s, First Congregational Church, Lafayette Christian, First Presbyterian Church and Hamonah Presbyterian will again co-host the Winter Nights Shelter in 2022 (May 30 – June 13) in the St. Andrew’s Celebration Center.   With your help, we can provide a warm, safe haven for homeless families with children during their two-week stay.

The 2019 Winter Nights program was very rewarding.  We had 7 families – a total of 23 people.  With the help of St. Andrew’s, First Congregational Church, Lafayette Christian, First Presbyterian Church and Hamonah Presbyterian all co-hosting the Winter Nights Shelter and numerous volunteers the families were well taken care of.

The Need:  On any given night there are almost 7,000 homeless men, women and children in Contra Costa County.  68% are part of a homeless family with children.  Unfortunately, there is not enough shelter space in Contra Costa County.

What is Winter Nights Shelter?  Operated by the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County, the Winter Nights Shelter program is a rotating homeless shelter that uses the facilities and helping hands of over 30 faith organizations to provide shelter for homeless families from October through May.  Those served by the program move every two weeks from one congregation to the next during this period.  The program serves those most at risk in the cold weather:  families with children and seniors.
